The Project Brief
Modernizing a home’s access control during a broader renovation requires careful planning to ensure the new technology blends seamlessly with the updated aesthetics. Marc and the Calibre Connect team were tasked with installing a comprehensive Hikvision IP intercom system for a residence on Gottwald Place, West Pennant Hills. The goal was to provide high-definition video monitoring and automated security door control without leaving exposed cabling or clustered, messy wall plates.
Pre-Wiring and Wall Chasing (The Rough-In Stage)
Because this installation happened concurrently with a home renovation, we had the opportunity to completely conceal the necessary infrastructure.
To achieve a clean finish for the indoor monitoring station, the brick walls were chased to accommodate the new data and power lines. We ran Cat 6 data cable alongside a 12-volt power feed from the front gate location directly to the indoor touch screen mounting point.
We deliberately aligned the new intercom wall boxes with the planned positions for the home’s Hager lighting controls and the Samsung AC Premium Wired Controller (MWR-WE13U). Grouping these controls requires precise alignment before the final wall finishing. (Note: If you are undertaking a similar renovation, coordinating these elements early is critical. Once the rough-in was complete, the walls were re-rendered with cement and painted, completely hiding the complex wiring network behind a flawless finish.

Hardware Installation and Networking
At the front entrance, we mounted the Hikvision DS-KV6113-WPE1 IP Villa Door Station. This unit acts as the primary access control point, featuring a high-definition camera and two-way audio.
Inside, the Hikvision DS-KH8520-WTE1 Touch Screen was installed flush against the newly rendered wall, sitting perfectly inline with the localized light switches and climate controls.
To bring the system online:
Final Integration and Automated Access
With the physical hardware secured and networked, the final step was software configuration. The indoor touch screen was programmed not only to receive video calls from the front gate but also integrated with the front security door’s electronic strike. This allows the homeowner to verify a visitor’s identity via the touch screen and automatically trigger the security door to open with a single tap.
