MG Wall Charger Installation Tips

Choosing the right location

There are a few things to consider when choosing the right location for your home MG EV charger.

First, you’ll want to think about where you park your car most often. You’ll want to choose a spot that’s close to an outlet and easy to access so you can easily plug in and unplug your car.

Second, consider how much sunlight the spot gets. If it’s in a shaded area, the charger might not work as well.

Third, make sure the area is well-ventilated so the charger doesn’t overheat.

Fourth, if you have kids or pets, you’ll want to choose a spot that’s out of their reach so they can’t accidentally damage the charger or injure themselves.

Testing the charger

Once one of our electricians have installed your MG charger, testing the charger is simple. Just plug it in to an outlet and attach the other end to the car. You should see a green light on the charger, indicating that it is working properly.

If everything is working as it should, congratulations! You have successfully installed your EV charger. Call us atΒ (02) 8898 0200 for estimate.

MG EV Charger Installation – FAQs

MG EV charger installation in Sydney must comply with Australian Standard AS/NZS 3000:2018, requiring a dedicated 32A circuit (preferably 40A), minimum 6mmΒ² cable size, and Type A Residual Current Device (RCD). A licensed electrician must install the charger, with recommended isolator switches for safe disconnection. Circuit breakers should be Curve B or C type.

Check all wiring connections are secure and comply with AS/NZS 3000 standards. Verify the dedicated circuit breaker and RCD are correctly rated and functional. Confirm the ChargeHub firmware is updated and the web interface is accessible. If problems persist, consult your licensed electrician or MG support for professional assistance.

The MG ChargeHub’s web configuration allows users to remotely manage charging schedules, monitor energy consumption, and control access via RFID cards. This enhances user convenience and security, letting Sydney homeowners optimise charging times and costs while ensuring only authorised users can operate the charger.

Install the charger in a dry, accessible area with sufficient space around it for ventilation and cable reach. Outdoor units must have an IP44 or higher rating for weather protection. Avoid locations near water, gas, or steam pipes to minimise hazards.

DIY installation of MG EV chargers is not permitted in Australia, including Sydney. A fully qualified, licensed electrician must complete the installation to meet safety standards, ensure compliance with AS/NZS 3000:2018, and maintain warranty validity.

Sydney installations must comply with NSW electrical safety laws and may require notification to the local distribution network service provider (DNSP). Building codes and fire safety guidelines also apply, especially in multi-dwelling or strata properties.

MG fast chargers typically require a dedicated circuit with a 32A supply, often three-phase for higher power (up to 11kW). The cable size must be at least 6mmΒ² CSA, with appropriate RCD protection. Sydney homes must ensure their electrical system can support these loads before installation.

Regular maintenance per manufacturer guidelines is advised to ensure safe operation and longevity. Sydney homeowners should schedule inspections for electrical integrity, firmware updates, and physical damage checks, especially for outdoor installations exposed to weather.
