Thermogroup Econoboard Coated Insulation Board

The Thermogroup econoboard is an optional addition to your underfloor heating kit that is designed to insulate the heating elements from the floor, meaning the floors stay warmer for longer, saving you power, and money off of your electric bill!
- Enhanced Insulation – Econoboard improves underfloor heating efficiency.
- Energy Savings – Reduces heat loss, lowering electricity costs.
- Longer Heat Retention – Keeps floors warmer for longer.
-
Electric underfloor heating can be made up to 50% more efficient. -
100% rot-resistant and moisture-resistant -
Heat loss into the substrate is minimal, therefore heat up times are quicker. -
Aids in the prevention of mould staining in bathrooms due to moisture. -
Cuts using common hand tools and is simple to install. -
It can be used on both floors and walls. -
Timber floors’ lateral and flexural stability are improved.

Is it necessary to use Econoboard Insulation Boards with underfloor heating?
Because heat flows evenly in all directions until it encounters a layer of thermal resistance, installing a layer of Econoboard Insulation Boards beneath the Underfloor Heating to act as a thermal resistance layer and prevent downward heat loss is highly recommended. Stopping this downward heat loss reduces the time it takes for the Underfloor Heating to heat up and can improve its efficiency by up to 50%. However, if this is not taken into account during the height construction, the heating will still work, but it will be less efficient and take longer to warm up.

What is the difference between Econoboard Insulation that is uncoated and Econoboard Insulation that is coated?
Uncoated boards have an extruded polystyrene core with a fibre reinforced cement coating on both sides, whereas coated boards have an extruded polystyrene core with a fibre reinforced cement coating on both sides. The Coated Econoboard is designed to be used on a wooden substrate to offer lateral stability, whilst the Uncoated Econoboard is designed to be used on concrete.
